5 Aug Thika High School | 2 Demonstration Schools | U13 & U15 Categories on Show | 2027 Regional Structure Planned |
THE OCCASION
For the first time, flag football will be demonstrated at the Term 2 Ball Games Nationals, one of Kenya’s most prominent school sports competitions. KFAF will be on the ground at Thika High School from 10:00 AM on 5th August 2026, running live game demonstrations across the U13 and U15 categories. Teachers, students, and parents are all welcome and encouraged to attend.
This platform has been made possible through the support of the Ministry of Education, State Department of Basic Education, in partnership with the Kenya Primary and Junior Schools Sports Association (KPJSSA). That institutional backing is significant. It signals not just tolerance of flag football in the school system , but active endorsement of it.
THE TWO SCHOOLS REPRESENTING PRIMARY SCHOOLS
Selected. Prepared. Ready to Deliver.
Two schools have been specially nominated to conduct live demonstrations on the nationals stage:
- Farasi Lane Primary School — Westlands Sub-Region
- Green Edgewood Academy — Ruiru Sub-County, Githurai Area
Their selection reflects the quality of work being done at the school level. These are not last-minute additions, they are schools that have invested in the sport, trained their students, and earned their place at the national stage.
“This is an incredible opportunity to showcase at the nationals and we will not take it for granted. We will show up and deliver a showcase that creates a real buzz. All we need is a chance — and the challenge is ours to prove why it matters.”
— Amos Njeru, Green Edgewood Academy

MONTHS OF GROUNDWORK
Moments like this do not happen overnight. For the past year, KFAF leadership has been in active consultation with both the Ministry of Sports and the Ministry of Education, working closely with the Director of Field Coordination, Co-Curricular Activities and Events. The man at the centre of that process on the government side has been Mr. Nelson Sifuna, whose progressive and forthcoming approach to flag football has been invaluable to the federation’s schools programme.
“We thank Mr. Sifuna for his leadership and guidance. His openness and support have been a cornerstone of our work in schools.”
— George Alwanga, President, KFAF

At the 2026 NFL Africa Flag Football Continental Championship at Nyayo Stadium this past July, both the Ministry of Sports and the Ministry of Education were in attendance and publicly praised KFAF for the strides made in developing the sport. The presence of both Ministries at that event, and their endorsement from the floor, made this nationals appearance the natural next step.
THE TRACK RECORD
A Youth Programme That Has Already Produced Continental Results.
KFAF’s appearance at the nationals is the continuation of a structured, results-driven youth programme that has been building since 2024. The numbers speak for themselves.
Youth Programme Timeline:
2024 | KFAF launched the U13 National Championship. Winners earn the right to represent Kenya at NFL-sanctioned continental youth championships. |
2025 | Green Edgewood Academy won the U13 title and travelled to Cairo, Egypt — finishing 2nd at the continental championship. The highest finish ever by a Kenyan youth team. |
2026 | Mirema School represented Kenya at the NFL Africa Continental Championship on home soil at Nyayo National Stadium. July 9-11 in the Youth division finished 5th Overall. |
2027 | Host Nation to be confirmed for U13. Qualifier round to be held before April 2027 through Ministry of education regionals |

Each year, 10 athletes and 2 teachers earn the life-changing opportunity to travel internationally and represent Kenya, fully supported by KFAF’s partners at NFL FLAG. That pipeline runs directly through the schools programme, which makes the Thika High School demonstration far more than a showcase. It is a recruitment drive for the next generation of Kenyan champions.(Insert: Mirema school(Kenya) vs Egypt, 2026 NFL Africa Flag -Youth Continentals Nyayo Stadium)
