Flag football is rapidly growing worldwide as an exciting, fast-paced, and accessible alternative to tackle football. With its emphasis on skill, strategy, and agility rather than physical contact, the sport is attracting players of all ages, from youth to elite competitors.
Flag football follows the same basic rules as tackle football but eliminates tackling. Instead of bringing an opponent to the ground, defenders stop the play by pulling a flag attached to the ball carrier’s waist. This makes the game safer while still retaining the competitive spirit and strategic depth of American football.
The Kenya Federation of American Football (KFAF) is leading the country’s charge in flag football, ensuring opportunities for players of all ages:
✅ U12 and U17 youth categories
✅ Senior men’s and women’s divisions
Kenya aims to send teams to continental competitions in June 2025 and again in 2027, across all categories. The ultimate goal is to develop a competitive national program that will qualify for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, where flag football will debut as an official sport.
Flag football is more than just a game; it’s a movement that promotes inclusivity, athleticism, and teamwork. Whether you’re a student, a coach, or a sports enthusiast, now is the perfect time to get involved and be part of Kenya’s flag football revolution!
