CALLING ALL FLAG FOOTBALL WOMEN
YOUR NATION NEEDS YOU.
KFAF is holding National Women's Flag Football Team Trials. We are building a squad that will compete for continental glory and chase an Olympic dream at LA 2028.
By the KFAF Communications Desk | Nairobi, Kenya
There are moments in sport that define a generation. Moments that people remember forever, not just because of what happened on the field, but because of everything they stood for off it. What KFAF is building right now, with the Women's National Flag Football Team Trials, is one of those moments.
Kenya is stepping onto the global stage. Flag Football is making its historic Olympic debut at the 2028 Los Angeles Games, and the road to LA 2028 runs right through our backyard. First stop: the 2027 Continental Championship. And to get there, we need the best women Kenya has to offer.
"We are not building a team for one tournament. We are building a legacy, one that will inspire every girl in this country to pick up a football and believe that the Olympics are within reach." - George Alwanga- President KFAF

What the Trials Look Like
Never played American Football before? That's perfectly fine. Flag Football is the fast, non-contact version of the game, and it's built on speed, agility, sharp decision-making, and the kind of teamwork that doesn't care what sport you played before. If you can run, catch, think fast, and compete hard, KFAF's coaches want to see you.
Experience in American Football is a bonus, but raw athletic talent and a burning desire to represent Kenya are what this federation is really looking for. Athletes from track, rugby, basketball, soccer, and any other discipline are welcome and encouraged to come through.
What coaches will assess at trials:
- Athleticism: Speed and agility under pressure — straight-line pace, change of direction, reaction time
- Ball Skills: Catching routes, ball handling, and field awareness in live situations
- Game Intelligence: Reading the field, processing plays quickly, and making smart decisions
- Coachability: Your attitude, your willingness to be coached, your hunger to grow
- Competitive Spirit: The fire to represent your country — that desire has to be real and visible
Whatever your sporting background, or even if sport is something you've always done informally — this is KFAF's open invitation. Come and show us what you've got. Every great player started somewhere. Your somewhere could be right here.
"The flag belt is the great equalizer. The woman who makes this squad might never have held a football before. What she will have is heart, speed, and the belief that she belongs."
— THE BIGGER PICTURE —
Why This Moment Matters
When the International Olympic Committee added Flag Football to the 2028 Olympic programme, it didn't just add a sport, it added a conversation. A conversation about inclusion. About access. About the idea that an athlete from Nairobi, Kisumu, Mombasa, or Nakuru is just as capable of standing on an Olympic podium as anyone else in the world.
KFAF has been quietly and consistently building this sport across Kenya, from the 10 Universities, 20 Western High schools Kenya to the 32 primary schools . The women's national team trials are the natural next chapter of that story. This is what real, sustainable development looks like: structured, purposeful, and pointed directly at the global stage.
The women who walk into these trials are not just trying out for a team. They are walking into history. Whoever makes this squad will be part of the very first generation of Kenyan women to represent this nation in Flag Football at the continental level, with an Olympic dream lighting every step of the way.
