"Going from training with Team Kenya to coming back to Chuka, training the players, and eventually captaining the team at nationals has been a very fulfilling journey."
— Nancy Moseti, Chuka University Captain
Every monumental movement starts with a single spark. For Chuka University, that spark came when team captain Nancy Moseti stepped onto the field during the launch of flag football in Central Kenya at Meru University.

What started as a foundational theory session led by Coach Baha, the Kenya Men’s National Team coach, quickly transformed into an elite athletic opportunity. Spotting her natural fitness and raw athletic edge during the practical fieldwork, Coach Baha encouraged Nancy to take a shot at the national team trials at JKUAT.
Throwing herself headfirst into the challenge, Nancy earned a spot in the training squad. Under the guidance of Coach Saleh, the Kenya Women’s National Team coach, she sharpened her skills through grueling, consistent sessions competing against the country’s best. When the final national squad roster dropped just weeks before the tournament, Nancy’s hard work paid off: she made the cut.

Bringing the Fire Back to Chuka
Armed with elite-level experience and a newly forged passion, Nancy returned to Chuka University with a mission. She wanted to share what she had learned, introducing fellow students to the game and building a competitive team entirely from scratch.
Getting the university administration on board wasn't handed to them on a silver platter; it required proving serious commitment. The squad demonstrated they were training consistently, organizing themselves with discipline, and treating the sport with professional intent.
As Nancy notes, diving into flag football isn't without its hurdles:
The Learning Curve: Players must rapidly master complex rules, specialized positions, intricate playbooks, and crisp communication.
Athletic Demands: It requires a seamless blend of top-tier speed, agile footwork, and lightning-fast decision-making.
"Once you understand the game, it becomes really exciting," Nancy explains.
Crowned the Inaugural Champions
When Chuka stepped onto the pitch for the inaugural KUSF Emerging Sports championships, they did so as a young, hungry expansion team. But they trusted the preparation they had put in.

Finishing the tournament with an impressive three wins and one draw, Chuka proved they were no flash in the pan. The wins instilled rock-solid confidence, while the hard-fought draw proved the squad could stay composed under pressure against tough opponents. Most importantly, their stellar performance earned them the prestigious title of Inaugural Women’s KUSF Emerging Sports Champions.
The Future is Bright in Central Kenya
Reflecting on the journey, Nancy sees this milestone as merely chapter one for the region. With increased exposure, structured training camps, and more regional tournaments, the standard of competition across Central Kenya is primed to skyrocket.
"For us, this is only the beginning," Nancy says. "The next target is to build a stronger team, train harder, compete in more tournaments, and establish Chuka as a force in flag football within Central Kenya."
From a local workshop at Meru University to national team trials and collegiate glory, Nancy and Chuka University have written a masterclass in how to build a championship legacy from the ground up.
