THE VOTE
At the NOCK Extraordinary General Assembly, Mr. Alwanga made presentation on behalf of KFAF why join NOCK. Therafter the delegates voted. The result: KFAF admitted as member number 33 out of 34. A majority vote by Kenya’s Olympic Members, formally recognising Kenya Federation of American Football’s place inside this country’s sporting structure. Of the more than 150 sporting federations registered and recognised by the Ministry of Sports Registrar in Kenya, only a select number hold NOCK membership. KFAF is now among them.

SEVEN YEARS TO GET HERE
Membership Is Earned. Not Given.
KFAF officially adopted flag football in 2019 flag football as its primary discipline which followed with a demonstration of the sport during the 7th Kenya University Sports Association (KUSA) National Games in Moi University December 2019. Kenya played Uganda for the showcase. Fast-paced, non-contact, and built for inclusivity across genders, flag football was the right vehicle for a sport trying to take root in Kenya quickly without the barriers that tackle football presented.
The path to NOCK membership is not automatic. A federation must demonstrate proper governance structures, international affiliation ,active youth and development programmes, a national team with verifiable international results medals, trophies, continental appearances and genuine local presence proving the sport is well-rooted and supported on the ground just to name a few. Registration with the Ministry of Sports is mandatory.
Then comes a formal application, a vetting process, a presentation to the General Assembly, and finally a majority vote.
KFAF met every one of those requirements and more. The vision for this moment was planted in 2022 when the NFL and IFAF submitted their joint bid to have flag football included in the LA 2028 Olympics. Four years on from that decision, and after seven years of building the sport from the ground up in Kenya, KFAF has taken its place at the table.

Three phrases. Each one precise. Together they tell the complete story of what NOCK membership delivers for Kenyan flag football.
What changes from here:
1 | Greater athlete support More access to development programmes, training resources, welfare structures, and funding mechanisms available through the Olympic movement. |
2 | Stronger partnerships The NOCK banner elevates KFAF’s profile for corporates and organisations with Olympic ambitions. A wider pool of collaborators, sponsors, and supporters now becomes accessible. |
3 | Olympic planning becomes national Flag football’s pathway to LA28 and beyond is no longer a federation goal alone. It becomes part of Kenya’s national Olympic strategy, with all the weight and resources that carries. |
4 | Development programme access KFAF coaches, officials, and athletes can now tap into NOCK’s development initiatives, educational programmes, and support structures directly. |
